The Back to School Rally

A look into Mitty’s 2023 Back to School Rally.

It all started on one ordinary Friday morning after 6 period, where everyone headed to the gym. As students filled the bleachers, the uproar of cheers resounded all over the Fien Gym, as each class shouted their chants with energy. After a few minutes, the chatter slowly dimmed, and a voice rang out to the audience: “Hey Monarchs! Good morning and welcome to your 2023-2024 Back to School Rally!”

According to Mr. Greg Walker, the head of Student Activities, this rally served as a rest to students—the goal was to let everyone be engaged and have funASB (Associated Student Body), the leading group in Student Activities, did most of the decision-making for the Back to School Rally. As Mr. Walker says, “the ASB members plan it from beginning to end.” In order for the ASB students to know more about the new teachers, according to junior ASB member Ethan Soon, Student Activities organizes surveys that are sent out to the new first year teachers to learn about them and feature them at the rally.

The best way for each student to help the rally be successful is by learning the class cheer, which builds up the school and class spirit and allows the class to be more bonded. In Ethan Soon’s words, “Essentially, Student Activities may be the backbone of the rally, but the student body must be there in order to support the rest of the ‘body.’”

Overall, the Back to School Rally aims to be a dynamic and engaging event that holds numerous intriguing and significant elements concealed behind the scenes. Even though each year might be slightly different from before, the efforts of the ASB members consistently shine in their meticulous planning and execution of the event.
