A Day in the Life of a Model
November 10, 2020
Ava Leonard is a model for Paige Day Photography’s Class of 2021 Model Team. In this article, Ava takes readers through a day in her shoes as a model.
A few days before the shoot, my mom and I will find a couple outfits, corresponding with the photographer to make sure that they fit the theme of the shoot. The photographer provides a style board to help us shortlist the shoot attire. In previous years, there was an opportunity to have our makeup professionally done at the studio; we would arrive at the studio a few hours before the photoshoot to get ready. However, to ensure safety precautions during COVID-19, we do our makeup ourselves.
Once everyone is ready and at the shoot location, the photographer assigns us each a number that correlates with our group and individual shots. Posing as a model can be a little nerve-racking; in the beginning, the photographer guides us through different poses. As the shoot continues and we gain more confidence, the guidelines turn into more general ideas to spur our creativity. When the shoot is completed and the photos are fully edited, we meet with the photographer to browse through the finished pieces.
From this experience, my favorite moment is getting ready for the photoshoot. I get to spend time with my mom, picking out outfits that I wouldn’t necessarily get to wear on a day-to-day basis. It’s also fun to get dressed up and get my makeup done.
Ava’s been modeling for four years now, but every shoot offers a new and unique experience. Catch Ava on the cover of Vogue in the near future!
