Whether she is in school or in her art studio, junior Bailey Su proves art can influence all aspects of our daily lives. Since the age of five, Bailey has consistently been producing artwork inspired by the world around her.

This specific piece, she mentions, is a watercolor painting referenced from Robert Leedy’s artwork. Influenced by his style, Bailey utilizes Leedy’s methods of color blocking in her art work; she also sharpens her own skills and techniques in using Leedy’s method to build her knowledge and skill of painting landscapes.
Bailey’s choice of medium is watercolor as she believes that it tends to blend best and produce more vibrant colors. Even though she acknowledges oil paint may have the same desired effect, she selected watercolor as the chosen medium. In her own particular, methodical style, she paints section-by-section instead of painting in traditional watercolored layers. She refuses to move onto the next section until the prior is complete as it provides her with a sense of accomplishment.

Outside of her art studio, Bailey showcases her talent in our very own Archbishop Mitty community. She designed this year’s Monarch Madness T-shirt, showcasing the themes and years of each class and weaving them together in an elaborate design.
In the midst of her busy junior year, art remains Bailey’s center. She explains that at the end of each week, no matter the event, she always blocks out 2 hours per Saturday to work on her portfolio. Her sense of dedication allows her to tune out the rest of her stress and worries, allowing her to be present her artistic gifts in the moment.
Ultimately, her artwork provides her with a sense of pride, creating compelling and original art that inspires not only herself but her audience. For Bailey, crafting compelling art like this is more than painting pretty pictures; it is about creating beauty that resonates with others.
