Dead By Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is a unique spin on the horror game genre where a player can be both the chaser and the chased, playing off the trope of the big bad monster hunting the player as the player tries to survive said monster. Games such as Poppy Playtime and Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach follow this to a tee with their own horror mascots, but Dead By Daylight vastly alters this landscape by letting players choose to be a survivor or the monster.

Now, obviously, it would be unfair if there was only one survivor being chased around the map by someone whose main objective is to get them, so four survivors need to repair five generators in order to escape. Escaping is how survivors win, but it really isn’t that easy. To repair a generator you’ll need to pass multiple skill checks that are basically quick-time events. Players are moved to work on generators together because if only one survivor is on a generator, it takes roughly one-and-a-half minutes.

Behaviour Interactive was able to reel players in by getting licenses for icons of the horror genre to be in the game. Players can find survivors such as Steve Harrington from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil series, and even Nicolas Cage himself. On the other side, there are villains such as William Afton from Five Nights at Freddy’s, Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise, and Sadako Yamamura from The Ring with her TV crawling habit becoming her main ability within the game.

Fans have raved about every character, each of them expressing love for characters both licensed and original. Each original character has their own unique backstory, whether it be The Blight, who was a Scottish scientist whose experiments turned him into the monstrosity he is now, or The Huntress who was just a girl living in the Russian woodlands, but some unfortunate events made her into the nonverbal and evil rabbit mask wearer she is now.

I joined the Dead By Daylight community because of my friends, and I’ve since grown attached to the game. It’s also a game that’s only going to keep growing, especially when Behaviour Interactive can get more licenses.

If you’re interested in it, there’s more than likely a character in Dead By Daylight from whichever series you’re a fan of. It’s also just a fun game to play with friends and can make for some fun gaming sessions filled with screams, laughs, and a whole lot of generators being repaired.
