“It was imagining my grandmother that gave me the idea to take this photo. Pearls are seen as symbols of wisdom, and since the older women in my family wear pearls sometimes, it felt like the perfect representation.”

Taken in Yokohama, Japan, the photo features a ship reminiscent of vintage movie scenes amidst modern skyscrapers. Keiju employed warmer tones to reflect the yellowing of old photographs.

This image of the markets on the Embarcadero in San Francisco was taken using a digital camera app. To achieve this effect manually, one can increase blur or noise and color grade the image using warmer colors.

The dramatic, black shadows juxtapose the bright lanterns and clear, blue sky.

Using the standard Photos app on Apple devices, Garrett increased Vignette and Black Point to achieve this black-and-white look. Taken outside our school’s very own cafeteria, this photo exemplifies how editing can completely alter a photo’s mood.

The strong lighting and green undertones of the clothing invokes the “feel” of photos taken on a digital camera. While modern technology continues to enhance one’s photography experience, many are drawn back to nostalgic, vintage photography.

To make this modern street in Ginza, Japan appear vintage, Keiju utilized the settings on Google Photos to increase warmth and saturation. The resulting contrast between the dark, warm buildings and the light sky creates a dimensional feel.
