The track and field team this year is an embodiment of excellence as well as a community, made up of individuals who strive to be a part of something greater than themselves.
Foundational for any great sports program is excellence in coaching. In her decades of coaching women’s basketball at Mitty, Head Coach Sue Phillips ('86) has imparted court skills that translate to life skills.
According to senior Marin Garand, “Last year, it was about pushing yourself and having fun. This year, we're focusing on the pushing part and being more serious about really trying to get far, especially since more and more girls and guys are joining.”
Mitty's nationally renown athletics program wouldn't be possible without experienced athletic trainers, which is why we asked trainer Chelsea Waldrup what her work looks like on a daily basis.
On February 12, the Chiefs faced off against the Eagles in the Super Bowl. With the best offenses in the league, there were high expectations for the game, and boy did it deliver.
“We’re trying to control defensively where we’re sending people. And then offensively we’re controlling, playing downhill and getting into the paint. That’s kind of what we mean by applying force. In the last two games of last season, the other two teams dictated that and we didn’t," says Coach Kennedy.
